Graduate Student: Music

The Month Between April and May is a short film and immersive installation that combines actors with animation. Aided by a state of the art immersive lab, the project uses cutting-edge technology to take traditional storytelling to new lengths. Exploring themes of belonging within a diaspora, the film teeters between fantasy and a period drama. During the course of a month, we follow a nurse, May, and her journey aboard a surreal hospital train, the patients she encounters, and a final grand exit.
Fellowship Cohort: Fall 2024
Why did you choose this project?
Kai Tattersall and myself both felt compelled to write a story that articulates our relationships and feelings around our heritages, and identities within the diaspora.
How was this fellowship meaningful or impactful to you?
This fellowship has been truly transformative, giving us as independent filmmakers the opportunity to pursue our dream project with complete creative freedom.
I (Myles) am primarily a musician and composer, but I have always carried a deep passion for film. This fellowship has provided not only the support but also the credibility necessary to bring this project to life.
Have you showcased this work in any other ways or places? Do you have any future plans related to this work?
This will be screened as an instillation with the support of Qualcomm Institute IDEAS Grant at UC San Diego's Recombinant Media Lab in Spring 2026.
